Communities around Blue Flint Ethanol are starting to feel its impact Cities such as Underwood Wilton and Washburn are within a short drive to the plant Brad Feldman takes us to one of the towns and shows us what is taking place that is drawing national attention Sound Its seems like just another house being built However its just the beginning of a new housing development just south of Washburn Michael Blazek Trademark Realty The drive is the golf course and just being out in the country Its a brand new area the views are fabulous The Prairie Ridge Housing Development sits just to the north of the Painted Woods Golf Course This is the view from one of the decks overlooking one of the holes Its the piece and quiet that has many people taking a hard look at moving here Michael Blazek Trademark Realty Its the congestion down here they are trying to get away from and still have the good lifestyle The benefit of this housing development is being felt in the community of Washburn Newly Voight Wagonwheel Lumber and Hardware In the last six months we have had anywhere from ten to fourteen new single family homes in the area Voight manages Washburn s only lumber yard He says many of the contractors are coming to him for their supplies rather than driving thirty miles into Bismarck The extra business has allowed him to hire more people and renovate his shop Newly Voight Wagonwheel Lumber amp amp Hardware It keeps the community strong and you know it keeps everything locally you know if we weren t here there wouldn t be any jobs for the people there wouldn t be any new homes to be built Its a small town with big potential One both Voight and Blazek credit Blue Flint and other energy facilities in the area for creating In Washburn Brad Feldman KX News Blazek says the housing market in Washburn is strong He says in a two week time period six houses changed hands Blue Flint Ethanol employees 37 people
