Six months into operation and things are going as planned at Blue Flint Ethanol Today plant officials and state leaders are holding a grand opening for the plant near Underwood The plant will produce fifty million gallons of ethanol each year General Manager Jeff Zueger says much of this ethanol is then shipped by rail to the east coast He says the shipping is a major cost but they get a savings on the production Zueger says this is the only integrated ethanol plant in the country Jeff Zueger Blue Flint Ethanol were ussing essentially waste heat from the power production facility energy that could not have been used in the power producton porcess we are bringing that energy over and using it in the ethanol conversion process Zueger says right now they are on schedule to meet their yearly production goal of fifty million gallons He says getting corn is not a major problem Much of it is coming from producers in our own state Jeff Zueger Blue Flint Ethanol Theyve got a short lne rail that services our facility as well as traverses through south east north dakota so that is kind of corn country north dakota so a lot of our corn comes up that short line rail and comes directly into our site In addition to Blue Flint Ethanol there are five new ethnaol plants either producing fuel under construction or in the planning stage
